Another Supplement Horror Story
Ephedra is not the only dangerous supplement on the market. Jennifer Rosenthal, just 28 year old, lost her liver taking capsules containing Usnic acid, a chemical found in lichen plants. Like Ephedra, the Usnic pills are touted for their ability to speed the body's metabolism. Ms. Rosenthal was not even overweight when she took the pills, but she almost lost her life. She was lucky enough to find a liver transplant, but must now take 47 PILLS A DAY to prevent rejection and other problems. The manufacturers of dietary supplements do not have to prove that their products are safe before going on the market. Don't allow yourself to become a guinea pig for the supplement industry.
