Scales of Injustice?
Congratulations, you are now (or will soon be)the proud owner of a sleek, modern scale, and are ready to take your first steps to the path to good health. Just remember, the scale is just a piece of equipment, not GOD.

Try to limit your visits to the scale to once a week, preferably first thing in the morning following a timely bathroom trip. Not only will this give you the lowest reading possible, but it will also provide consistency in measuring your progress from week to week. Still, there will be some weeks when the scale does not move down, or heaven forbid, goes up slightly. DO NOT ALLOW YOURSELF TO GET DISCOURAGED!

If you are following a sensible diet and exercise plan (more on that in later entries), you are still losing body fat, despite the numbers. Most overweight individuals carry around three to six pounds of excess water weight, which can lead to large fluctuations on the scale. Weighing yourself in the morning eliminates some of the deviations, but not all.

Ultimately, the best measure of your diet progress is your blue jeans! Do your pants feel tighter this week? looser? Remember, a big drop in your weekly scale reading (more than two pounds) is probably just water weight, and does not merit a jumbo brownie at lunchtime. On the other hand, if the scale stubbornly spits out a higher reading, but your pants are not cutting off your circulation, then pat yourself on the back. Do you think people are going to look at you and think ``well she looks like she weighs 152.6 pounds this week, the heifer!" No, they will be impressed at your ability to look svelte in Diesels.
