Thanksgiving Survival Strategies

Thanksgiving has always been my favorite holiday. No gifts to buy, just delicious food to consume. Of course, if you are dieting, Thanksgiving can become a minefield. Here a few survival tips to get you through the big day (these lessons can also be applied to Christmas, New Year's, Easter, etc.)
(1) Go Heavy on the turkey and vegetables, light on the stuffing and desserts. People tend to eat the same quantity (by weight) of food daily. Focus on lean protein (white turkey meat) and high-fiber, low-starch carbohydrates (unbuttered green beans, broccoli) and you won't have a bottomless pit for the pecan pie. Yes, I love it too!
(2) Get a workout (cardiovascular or weight-training) before the big meal. This will boost your metabolism, making the extra calories less costly to the bottom line and your bottom (again, I go back to the pecan pie). Most gym chains are open on Thanksgiving, including New York Sports Club. The hours may be somewhat limited, but the gym should be quite empty when you arrive. But, then again, not that many people are as smart as you are!
(3)Most importantly-eat and enjoy without guilt! You probably are not going to lose any weight on Thanksgiving, but you can develop a healthier attitude towards food by not feeling shameful.
HAPPY THANKSGIVING EVERYBODY!!!
