Holiday Survival Guide

Yes, it's that time of the year. Endless running around trying to find that perfect gift for Aunt Edna. Christmas party after fattening Christmas party. Not to mention the added stress of dealing with both wanted and unwanted relatives. The nuclear fallout of the holidays can easily add a good ten to fifteen pounds to your already zaftig frame. Here's a few tips on making to January 1st relatively unscathed.

(1) Never attend a Christmas party hungry-always eat a little something beforehand so you don't inhale a plate of cookies.

(2)Watch the alcohol intake-excessive drinking leads to excessive eating. If you must imbibe, at least alternate between alcoholic and nonalcoholic beverages. Remember, alcohol is dehydrating so please drink lots of water.

(3)Fill up on protein and vegetables. There should be plenty available because everybody else will be scarfing down the sugary, fattening treats.

(4)Don't forget to exercise. Gyms do not close down for repair in December.

(5)The mantra ``I'll worry about my weight after the holidays'' will only increase the likelihood that you will be fat throughout most or all of 2004!

Enjoy the holidays, but be good to yourself!
