Reflections from the 2003 blackout
When the power went out in my office building (and every other office building) in midtown last Thursday around 4:20 pm, visions of 9/11 started dancing in my head. I certainly knew the drill: try to walk as fast as I can back to my apartment on the Upper West Side. Despite the sweltering heat and the forty-five minute walk, I was feeling none the worse for wear as I climbed the eight flight of stairs to my apartment door. The reason: I am in the best physical condition of my life at the ripe old age of 37. Even better than that beautiful September day in 2001 when New York City lost the little innocience it had left.
