The Winner is Ruben, Hold the Mayo

If you are an American Idol addict like myself, you know that the velvet teddy bear, Ruben Studdard, won a hard-fought and narrow victory over skinny white beanstalk, Clay Aiken. My personal favorite throughout the series run was Kimberly Locke, though. Normally, a reality tv show should not deserve a mention in the weblog, but the National Association to Advance Fat People has literally taken the 350-pound Alabama crooner to its ample bosom, proclaiming how wonderful it is that a very fat man won the coveted title of American Idol. Don't get me wrong, Ruben certainly deserved to win on talent alone. But, it is also quite clear that Mr. Studdard is well over 100 pounds overweight, putting him in the category of the morbidly obese. One of Ruben's idols, Luther Vandross, has been in a coma from a stroke for more than a month now, and his history of weight problems and diabetes may have contributed to his condition. Fat discrimination, like any other form of prejudice, is wrong and UnAmerican. But, should we really just resign ourselves to being overweight and obese, and accept the accompanying health and social drawbacks? I SAY NO WAY, DOG!!!

On a brighter and lighter note, I bought my first carton of blueberries from my local bodega this week. Summer is finally here, and my beloved strawberries now have serious competition.
