Know Your Strengths and Weaknesses

Fattening, sugar-laden, food does not attach itself to your hips by osmosis. The crap first has to be purchased before it is consumed. If you have a weakness for a nonnutritive, calorie dense food item, keep it as far away as humanly possible. DON'T TRY TO BE BRAVE! Make a list of all the bad foods that tempt you, and those that don't. For instance, I have three large Hershey bars in my top desk drawer, which I had purchased for a fundraiser. The bars have been sitting in the drawer for close to a year now. I love the smell of chocolate, but I simply do not crave the taste enough to let it throw me off my good eating habits. Pasta, on the other hand, might as well be crack cocaine, as far as I'm concerned. I refuse to keep this carbo-nightmare in my apartment, and will only order rigatoni (my favorite) in a restaurant on very special occasions as a Reward Meal.
