Not-So-Stupid Diet Tricks
Carbs these days are getting worse press than Michael Jackson, but unlike Wacko Jacko, it is completely unwarranted. There's even advertisements for low-carb beer in the subway! Isn't beer liquid bread, just by definition? Anyway, it's not the presence of carbohydrates that make muffins, bagels, chips, bread, and yes, even beer, fattening, it's their high caloric density. A New York deli-style bagel will cost you around 600 calories before the butter and the cream cheese. Breakfast muffins can be even more deadly.
One of the keys to successful dieting is to choose food that can give you more bang for your dieting buck, foods with low caloric density. So instead of reaching for a bag of chips when you're craving a snack, how about some fresh fruit or hot-air popcorn?
